GROUP 6 Meeting - Supports EMIB
On Tuesday 25th February, 2014, President Derek Stow and Members of the Rotary Club of Golden Grove hosted the other Clubs from Group 6, Tea Tree Gully, Modbury and Makin Edge and their members, together with Special Visitors at the Group Six Dinner held at Sferra’s Restaurant, Modbury.
The theme for the evening was to recognise the achievement of the Emergency Medical Information Book Project in reaching the distribution figure of 1 million books, and to thank the management committee and supporters for reaching this “Magic” milestone. Since its inception the project has spread throughout Australia (including Tasmania) and been adopted by every Ambulance Service.
We were delighted to have some “Special Guests” with us on the night and these included DG Barbara Wheatcroft, Geoff King owner of Modbury Press who has been a strong supporter of the Project and Rotary in District 9500, and his wife Corrie. Geoff King was made a Paul Harris Fellow in November last year by the EMIB Committee and RC’s of Tea tree Gully, Modbury and Golden Grove, to recognise his contribution to the project and Rotary as a whole. The last important guest with us was Paramedic Rob Snell of South Australian Ambulance Service.
Whilst the project was started by Rotary, we are grateful to Lions International for joining in it.
Lion Bernie Donohue is their driving force, and we were delighted he and his wife Marie were able to join us in this celebration. In addition, Past Rotarian Arthur Jeffries who has been on the committee since its inception, and is responsible for handling all orders was also present.
Members of the Project Committee are well aware of the history of the book, however, whilst most Rotarians throughout our District know of it and support the project, they have no idea on how, when or why it started.
Of course someone had to come up with the concept of the book, and our Guest Speaker was Paramedic Rob Snell the originator (who was stationed at Modbury Ambulance Station at the time), spoke on how and why he conceived the idea, which was virtually unknown to people other than for members of the Project Committee.
In thanking Rob for his address, President Derek then presented Rob with a glass replica of the book set in a wooden stand, which was engraved recognising Rob as “The Originator of the Emergency Medical Information Book”.
It was a most successful night which was enjoyed by all whom attended.
