Since taking up her role of Group 8 Assistant Governor for D9500 (South Australia) in July 2013, Sandy Sumsion has been planning a fellowship weekend to bring members of the 5 Group 8 Rotary clubs together.   The idea of a Group 8 Muster 2014 was born, promoted across the Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Whyalla Norrie, Port Augusta and Roxby District clubs.
On the ANZAC weekend 34 people came together at Mt Ive Station at the foot of the Gawler Ranges in South Australia, for the augural Rotary D9500 Group 8 Muster.  The Muster Mascot was "Muster Mouse" who got into all the fun, food and frivolities.

Some participants brought their caravans or camper trailers, others pitched tents or threw down their swags, while others booked into the stone cottages or shearers quarters the station provides.

In the pre-dawn of Friday 25th April, 4 gun shots filled air to act as an alarm to all campers that in 10 minutes time the Rotarians would be conducting an ANZAC dawn service. PP Rotarian Noel Jenkins and his wife Margaret lead participants through some of their personal reflections and meanings of ANZAC, whilst Rotarian Deb Allen took charge of the flag raising ceremony. Two other 4WD clubs were staying at the Station and many of them joined in the dawn service and the cooked breakfast afterwards.

Members of the Pt Lincoln club prepared a magnificent seafood banquet on the Friday evening followed by a camp oven "Golden Syrup Dumplings".  Absolutely delicious!  Then for Saturday evening members of the Roxby District club slaved over a smorgasbord of camp oven meals.   Once again we all had happy tummies. By the end of the weekend - 'Muster Mouse' had been re-named to "Rotary Rat"....

Mt Ive Station is located near a salt lake called Lake Gardiner, where many land speed records have been contested, but during our visit the lake was full of water and quite spectacular.
The Muster was a wonderful success and everyone who participated had a fabulous time and made numerous new friends in Rotary.
Plans are already in place for the next Muster in 2015.
